Wendy Gregson, MBACP, Dip. Counselling, Cert. CBT, Cert. Supervision

Welcome to my website. I am a fully registered and experienced counsellor and offer one-to-one sessions to clients from comfortable, discreet, and easily accessible locations in Sale and Urmston. Clients can choose to have just a few sessions, or come for a longer period - I am happy to work with you and to provide the support you need for as long as you need it. *I also offer 'remote' therapy via Zoom or telephone.

  • I have been practising for 17 years and have a wealth of experience with a wide range of clients and issues. I have worked in a hospital occupational health setting and also privately for a number of years. My primary approach is 'Person-Centred Counselling', which gives you the time and space to explore the issues that are troubling you, either related to your current life, or from past events. I also offer 'Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)', for those who are struggling with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, phobias, panic attacks and negative thinking styles that are affecting behaviours and feelings.
  • As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (, I am committed to achieving the standards of professional practice and ethical conduct required by this professional body. Confidentiality is a key issue, and I believe this is vitally important so that you can feel safe to explore your personal feelings and experiences without judgement.
  • I've spent many years in work settings that have given me the opportunity to do what I enjoy most – helping and supporting other people. As well as a long-standing career in higher education, I have worked with people with special needs and also trained to be a teacher. When I made the decision to become a counsellor I knew it was the right one for me, as the one thing that kept me going through professional and personal difficulties was the knowledge that we are all human, with worries, anxieties and insecurities. It is heartening to see how people face up to some of the most traumatic and challenging life situations, and I feel privileged to be part of that process.
  • By working together and adopting a style that suits you as an individual, I can help you to achieve greater satisfaction and peace in your life. I will support you and empower you to achieve your goals.

How I can help

I work with a wide range of problems and issues, including, but not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Low self esteem
  • Phobias
  • Panic
  • Trauma
  • Bereavement
  • Addiction
  • Eating Disorders
  • Relationship problems
  • Anger

My approach is to help you to identify your problems and together we will adopt a treatment plan tailored to you. Some people respond best to ‘talking therapy', which allows them to talk about their experiences, problems and issues, and with gentle support, to find their own solutions. Others may have thoughts or behaviours that are causing them problems in their everyday life, and for these people, a more directive approach such as CBT may help. Often, I combine both approaches and this often brings about the most positive outcomes.

You can come as often as you like but in the early stages, weekly is recommended. Some clients taper off to fortnightly then monthly as they start to feel better. There is no limit to how long you come for counselling – this is a decision you will be best placed to make as the therapy progresses.

I am an experienced supervisor of qualified and trainee counsellors. Please contact me to discuss your needs. Rates are given in the ‘Fees' section. I am happy to provide written reports for trainee counsellors as required by their course provider.

Remote Working

I am happy to provide sessions remotely by Zoom or telephone. This is a mode of working that I have adopted recently due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it is a mode of working that I will continue to offer. Face to face sessions are also now available at two locations, one in Sale and one in Urmston.

'Wendy was an immense support to me during a difficult time when I was struggling with anxiety and coming out of a long period of depression. She provided a completely safe space for me to work on some complex issues, and helped me to build the confidence to come out of my shell and face the world again. Wendy is a warm, supportive and caring person, and I cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone who is looking for a counsellor.'

'I often wondered why I'd made some of the relationship choices I had both in the past and present. After having an abortion I wasn't too sure I actually wanted and subsequently being dumped, right at the beginning of lockdown, my life was in turmoil. I'd never considered counselling before but a friend recommended I try it. I can honestly say it's the best thing I've ever done. Wendy was so easy to talk to about everything I'd gone through in my life and offered support and guidance in a non judgemental environment. She got me to delve deeper into my childhood and asked the right questions to get me to explore and understand the trauma of what had happened to me then and how this had shaped who I was today. I'm now in place of understanding where things in my life seem to make sense and it is all thanks to Wendy.'

'Wendy has been a pillar of strength for me, my mum passed away at 18 and I never believed in counselling. At the age of 28 my partner finally convinced me to go to speak to someone about my grief. It opened my eyes. I had about 10 sessions and I felt so much better after it, I entered my 30's in a completely different light. To say Wendy has had a positive impact on my life is an understatement, I thoroughly value her work and her expertise. I now just pop in to see her on big occasions in my life, like when I am getting married or having a baby, its irregular but it's like just having a touchpoint every now again and its amazingly therapeutic. I'd highly recommend Wendy.'

'Wendy has been an amazing support for me throughout a very difficult time. After experiencing traumatic events and grief in a short space of time, Wendy has guided me into what feels like a new person! Throughout our 9 sessions together, Wendy has been understanding, patient and so kind. I feel I have started to challenge myself more and each session has given me a boost to carry on. I feel happier, lighter and so grateful for all help and support Wendy has provided. Although I still have a lot to work on for myself, Wendy has made me realise once again that bad times do pass and that an hour of non-judgemental talking each week can do you the world of good. I cannot recommend her counselling skills enough and so thankful I found her.'
